Are you new to Sojourn? We’re glad you found us! Attending a new church can be intimidating, so here are some things that can help you know what to expect.
Sojourn Church normally meets in classroom 214 on the second floor of the Young Center at Black Hills State University. You can find a map to the Young Center here. Occasionally classroom 214 is not available to us, and then we’ll meet in classroom 212 or 216, which are right next door on either side of 214. Very rarely, we meet somewhere else entirely, and if we do, we update our church calendar with that information.
We are currently a small church, but you can anticipate a friendly welcome, some coffee, and the occasional baked goods when you walk in. Bulletins outlining the order of worship are available on the back table. Recent examples of the order of worship can be found here.
A typical worship service at Sojourn begins with a Scriptural call to worship and prayer and then follows a format based on Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. This includes four or five worship songs and hymns intermingled with Scripture reading and prayer. For our Scripture reading, we are currently working through the Psalms, reading one Psalm each week.
On the first Sunday of each month, our members and other baptized believers participate in the Lord’s Supper, which begins with our church members reading our church covenant aloud together.
The sermon is usually 45-60 minutes long and is preached expositionally through a Bible passage. Check out some of our recent sermons here.
Nursery is provided during the sermon in a separate classroom nearby, for ages newborn through preschool. All of our nursery volunteers are women or young ladies, with at least one adult present.
Restrooms are located a short walk down the hall, across from the elevator.
